Sebuah Pencarian Teh Terbaik Dunia

Of the 2,434 prisoners incarcerated at Sandakan, 1,787 were Australian. The remaining 641 were British. The six Australians who escaped were the sole survivors. The rest were annihilated.

Sabah Tea Plantation and the Death Marches

The track cut especially to create the Death March route across the interior, and linking Sandakan to Ranau, connected two existing tracks. One was near Sandakan. The other went from Ranau to the river at Tampias, 31 miles away, where local people continued their journey eastwards, by boat.

In 2005, when local trekking expert Tham Yau Kong and Australian historian Lynette Silver, plotted and located the original route taken by the prisoners of war, they discovered that part of the old track passed through the area now occupied by the Sabah Tea Plantation.

Using wartime documentation, they identified the place where Private Allan Quailey had been murdered in February 1945 and suggested that it be named ‘Quailey’s Hill’ in his honour. The management of Sabah Tea Gardens, on realising the significance of the site, not only agreed but also created a memorial at the spot, with a granite plaque outlining the circumstances of Private Quailey’s death. This plaque was jointly unveiled by Datuk Masidi Manjun (Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Environment, Sabah), Senator Anne McEwen (Senator for South Australia), Lynette Silver, and Goh Mung Chwee (Executive Director, Sabah Tea Sdn Bhd) at a ceremony held on 14 July, 2007.

The management of Sabah Tea invites all visitors to visit the the memorial rock and plaque, on the crest of ‘Quailey’s Hill‘, to the east of the car park.

Private Allan Quailey

……. As they continued along the track the following morning, it was obvious that something was the matter with Quailey. A friend, who stayed behind to help him, realised it was not just the beriberi, the malaria, or the uphill trek that was the problem. He seemed to have lost the will to go on. At the top of the ridge, he slumped against a tree, refusing all entreaties to go any further. Fully realising that he was signing his own death warrant, his friend urged him to make one final effort. It made no difference. Quailey’s fate was sealed. In accordance with their orders to dispose of anyone who could not keep up, the Japanese bringing up the rear killed him.

Post-war the bodies of those who had died along the track were recovered and reburied in Labuan War Cemetery. Quailey, who was unidentified, remained ’Know unto God’ until 1999, when historian Lynette Silver located and identified a grave in Labuan as that of Private Quailey. The old headstone was removed and replaced with a new one, bearing his details and an inscription, chosen by his family.

Facebook Users Get The Opportunity to Win Exciting Prizes By Helping To Raise Funds to Fight Cancer Badges are often worn as a symbol or an emblem of a rank...

Facebook Users Get The Opportunity to Win Exciting Prizes By Helping To Raise Funds to Fight Cancer

Badges are often worn as a symbol or an emblem of a rank or a society that we belong to. Today, badges have gone beyond being mere physical objects and have since entered the world of social media, through the introduction of PicBadges on Facebook. The use of PicBadges is a phenomenal way to show your support for a society, a belief, a person; and not forgetting, a cause. Realising this, Sabah Tea’s new charity campaign will be riding on the power of online badges to influence people, in their effort to help raise funds for the National Cancer Society Malaysia (“NCSM”) and the Breast Cancer Welfare Association (“BCWA”).

Mr. Lim Ee Young, Chief Executive Officer of Yee Lee, which is the parent of Sabah Tea Sdn Bhd commented, “Many of us do not recognise the hard work put in by NCSM and BCWA in educating the public on cancer related issues and in providing the support to cancer patients. All these efforts require funding and without public support, it would be quite a challenge for non-profit organisations (“NGOs”) like NCSM and BCWA to be able to continue with their cause.”

He added, “We hope that through the ‘A Badge for Charity’ Facebook campaign and with the support of kind Malaysians, we will be able to create awareness about the two cancer societies. We hope that the campaign will also inspire people to find out and learn more about cancer before contributing to help with the cause to fight cancer.”

To participate in the campaign, participants will only need to place a Sabah Tea PicBadge on their Facebook profile picture. Each badge placed translates into RM 0.10 for the cancer societies. To make the campaign more interesting, Sabah Tea is rewarding three “Grand Contributors” with prizes in the form of iPad 2s. The “Grand Contributors” are the participants with most friends spotting the Facebook badges at the end of the campaign.

Sabah Tea, the company with tea products that are 100% pesticide-free, has also been working closely with both NCSM and BCWA on several other projects. One such collaboration is the e-Jamuan Teh Malaysia (“e-JAM), which was launched last June. E-JAM is the online platform for the public to register to host their Jamuan Teh (“JAM”), anytime, anywhere from 20th to 25th September, to collect funds to help the two cancer societies.

To find out more on how you can be part of these two meaningful campaigns, ‘A Badge for Charity’ and ‘E-JAM’, visit Sabah Tea’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/sabahtea today. We are waiting for you!

While most of us think that climbing the stairs is a hassle, and prefer to opt for an escalator or elevator, a group of 18 People with Different Abilities (“OKUs”)...

While most of us think that climbing the stairs is a hassle, and prefer to opt for an escalator or elevator, a group of 18 People with Different Abilities (“OKUs”) are ready to climb Mount Kinabalu against the odds. The challenge, “A Climb Beyond Disabilities” (or the “climb”) is jointly organised by two Rotary Clubs in Malaysia – namely, the Rotary Club of USJ and the Rotary Club of Bandar Utama. The climb, which will take place from 13 to 17 October 2011, will witness 18 OKUs comprising of the blind, autistic, spastic and sufferers of Down syndrome from various homes and centres conquering the tallest Mountain in South-East Asia.

At a Press Conference ceremony by Vistage Malaysia CE-16 (“Vistage Malaysia”) today, Mr. Lim Ee Young, Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) of Yee Lee Corporation Berhad (“Yee Lee”), representing its subsidiary Sabah Tea Sdn. Bhd. (“Sabah Tea”) presented the Rotary Club with a cheque worth RM 20,000 to help raise funds for the various different OKU organisations. Some of the beneficiaries include the Spastic Children’s Association of Selangor and Federal Territory, Handicapped and Disabled Children’s Association of Klang, Selangor, the Malaysian Association for the Blind (“MAB”), among others.

Dato’ Jimmy, Chairman of the Committee organising the climb said, “To date we have reached far beyond our target as a Main Sponsor, our CE 16 members have pledged a total of RM 160,000. However our overall project target is to raise RM 500,000 for seven (7) OKUs organisations.”

Lim also commented during the press conference that, “It’s an inspiration climb and Sabah Tea is very honoured to be able to be part of such a meaningful activity. Seeing how determined and dedicated the OKUs are, is such a motivating and uplifting experience for us. For one thing, it made us realise that, there are no excuses for us not to achieve our goals if put our hearts to it, just like how the OKUs have proven by embarking on this challenging effort.”

Lim, a member of Vistage Malaysia through its subsidiaries Sabah Tea has donated RM 20,000 and Yee Lee Edible Oil RM 5,000. He has also contributed a personal donation of RM 5,000 to the fund.

“Sabah Tea believes in living healthy and participating in activities such as mountain climbing is a good physical exercise for participants as well as the volunteers. Through this climb, we believe that more people will be able to enjoy the serenity of the environment and learn to appreciate nature,” Lim added.

In addition to raising funds, the objective of this climb is to demonstrate to the world that OKU’s who are physically or mentally challenged, could still accomplish great feats, with self belief and conviction. In addition, the climb also provide an opportunity for those who would like to embark on a journey to change their lives; to spend more time exercising and embracing the importance of it, as well as for those who just enjoy spending time surrounded by nature, while helping out an admirable cause.

In closing, Mr. Lim said, “Sabah Tea is very excited about “A Climb Beyond Disabilities” which will take place in October. We hope this activity would trigger others to organise activities that are beneficial to the OKUs, as it does not just help them financially, but also to boost their spirits.”

The climb is mainly sponsored by Vistage Malaysia and supported by the Ministry of Social Welfare, Corporate Donor Organisations & their leaders as well as TV3.
